Air Ambulance and Aeromedical Transport
Patient transfers in ICU-equipped aircraft with a doctor and nurse on board, from the sending hospital to the receiving hospital, anywhere in Brazil and worldwide.
What is an air ICU?
An air ICU is an aircraft equipped as an intensive care unit, with a doctor and nurse on board, used to transfer patients between cities, states or countries when ground travel would be too long or too risky.
Aviattion handles the entire transfer: case assessment, an ANAC-certified medical aircraft, the medical team, ground ambulances and communication with the sending and receiving hospitals.

When aeromedical transport is needed
An air ambulance is the right choice when the patient must reach another hospital quickly and cannot travel on a commercial flight or by road for many hours.
- 01
Hospital-to-hospital transfers
Moving patients to referral centres for surgery, transplants or continued treatment in another city.
- 02
Newborns and children
Neonatal and paediatric air ICU, with a transport incubator and a team trained in paediatric care.
- 03
Repatriation and international flights
Bringing home patients who fell ill or were injured abroad, and transfers for treatment in another country.
- 04
Critical patients over long distances
When the condition requires continuous intensive monitoring and ground travel would take many hours.
An aircraft equipped like a hospital ICU
Each aircraft is configured for the patient’s case and carries the same resources as an intensive care unit:
- Aeromedical stretcher secured to the aircraft, with safety belts
- Multiparameter monitor with defibrillator
- Infusion pumps for continuous medication
- On-board oxygen and compressed air
- Transport ventilator, when indicated
- Advanced life support drugs and supplies

Neonatal and paediatric air ambulance
For newborns, the neonatal air ICU carries a transport incubator that keeps the baby’s temperature, oxygen and protection stable throughout the flight.
The medical and nursing team is trained in neonatal and paediatric care, and a parent can travel on board, depending on the aircraft configuration.
International air ambulance
We provide international aeromedical transport to any country: repatriation of patients to Brazil and transfers for treatment abroad.
We arrange flight permits, contact with hospitals in both countries and ground ambulances, so the family does not have to worry about logistics.
- Repatriation to Brazil
- Treatment abroad
- Permits and documents
- Ambulance in both countries

How much does an air ambulance cost?
The cost of an air ambulance depends on distance, aircraft and the medical support the patient needs. These are market reference ranges:
| Type of aeromedical transport | Reference range |
|---|---|
| Short domestic flight | BRL 30,000 to 80,000 |
| Long domestic flight | BRL 100,000 to 200,000 |
| International | over BRL 500,000 |
Values are for reference only. The price of your transfer is given in the quote, after the case is assessed.
What changes the price
- Distance between hospitals and from the aircraft base
- Aircraft type: helicopter, turboprop or jet
- Team and equipment required by the clinical condition
- Ground ambulances at origin and destination
- Waiting time and international procedures
Air ICU plane or helicopter?
The aircraft is chosen based on distance, the patient’s condition and the airports and hospitals involved.
Jet air ambulance
Fastest over long distances and on international flights, with a pressurised cabin flying above bad weather.
Turboprop air ambulance
Versatile for regional and medium routes, and able to use shorter runways near smaller cities.
Helicopter air ambulance
For short distances and landing close to the hospital, including on helipads.
Bed-to-bed aeromedical transport
We accompany the patient from the sending bed to the receiving bed, so the family does not need to arrange each step separately:
- 1
Hospital pickup
An ambulance and team collect the patient at the sending hospital.
- 2
Flight with medical team
A doctor and nurse care for the patient throughout the flight.
- 3
Ambulance at destination
Another ambulance meets the aircraft and takes the patient to the hospital.
- 4
Hospital handover
The team hands the case over to the receiving hospital staff.
Air ambulance with insurance reimbursement
We accept private payment and health insurance reimbursement. Many health plans cover aeromedical transport when it is medically indicated, according to the policy.
We guide the family on the documents usually requested for reimbursement, such as the medical report and the service invoice.
How to book an air ambulance
A simple process for the family, even in urgent situations.

Safety in every transfer
Aeromedical transport follows ANAC rules for the aircraft and the medical and nursing councils’ rules for the team on board.
Certified aircraft
Every aircraft used is certified by ANAC, Brazil’s civil aviation authority, for aeromedical transport.
Specialised team
A doctor and nurse experienced in aeromedical transport accompany the patient.
Companion on board
A family member can travel with the patient, depending on the aircraft configuration.
How much does an air ambulance cost?
As a market reference, a short domestic air ambulance flight costs BRL 30,000 to 80,000, a long domestic flight BRL 100,000 to 200,000, and an international transfer can exceed BRL 500,000. The exact price depends on route, aircraft and medical support, and is given in the quote.
Is the air ambulance available 24/7?
Yes. Aviattion’s team responds 24 hours a day, every day, including weekends and holidays.
Does health insurance cover an air ambulance?
Many health plans reimburse aeromedical transport when it is medically indicated, according to the policy. We accept insurance reimbursement and private payment, and guide you on the documents needed.
Do you offer neonatal air ambulance?
Yes. The neonatal air ICU carries a transport incubator and a team trained to care for newborns and children.
Can you do international aeromedical transport?
Yes. We fly air ambulance missions to any country, both to repatriate patients to Brazil and to take patients for treatment abroad.
Can a family member travel with the patient?
Yes. Usually one companion can travel with the patient; the number of seats depends on the aircraft configuration.
What is the difference between an air ICU and an air ambulance?
An air ambulance is any aircraft used to transport patients. An air ICU is an air ambulance equipped for critical patients, with intensive care resources and a doctor on board.
What do I need to request a transfer?
Just tell us the sending and receiving cities and hospitals, the date and the patient’s clinical condition. The medical team assesses the case before confirming the flight.
